The Last 100 Feet

By |2012-10-05T21:58:56-04:00October 5, 2012|

The Last 100 Feet is a common refrain in many industries. For me, I first learned about this idea during my days working in television. The idea as I learned is that the cable companies spend billions of dollars laying down miles and miles of cable which is capable of connecting a massive web of boxes - those boxes might be TV's, or today they also include computers and a bevy of handheld devices.

Wow. It is Friday and it is time for a little fun. The Google Star Trek Doodle really delivers, currently available on the Google Home Page. I went ahead and did a quick video to give you a taste of it but I suspect there are a number of different stories you can experience for yourself.... Have fun with this one!

Blogging for InteractionContinuing with our series on Better Business Blogging, in this post we are going to focus on the concept of Interaction. Interaction is critical to every business. Being There by BloggingContinuing with our ongoing series on Better Business Blogging, in this post we explore an often under appreciated aspect of blogging that provides a critical validation for your website visitors. "Being There."

A Quick Analogy

Before we dive in too far in this post it might serve as well to draw a brick and mortar example to help further illustrate this point. Have you ever walked into a retail store that was a mess? How about walking into a store and there is nobody there to great you? You kind of walk around for a half second wondering what to do - are you even allowed to shop here? For those brief moments when you are in a retail store and there are no "humans" present, or when it feels like the store itself does not care about you and your needs as a shopper, the inclination is to walk right out the door. Your website is no different.

Making A Splash in Social Media

By |2012-08-25T10:44:16-04:00August 25, 2012|

I recently saw a very fun TED Talk about social media - it is from 2009 and yet here we are and everything in the talk feels very spot on even today. In particular the idea that by letting go the brand (in this case Greenpeace) was able to gain so much more - despite the fact that in doing so they ended up with an unexpected result that ultimately helped deliver on the outcome they were looking for.

From a digital standpoint, politics have become very interesting. While Al Gore might have had a large role in helping the internet get off the ground, with President Obama we had our first social media president. And it shows. This is also a complementary post following up on our recent 12 Digital Tactics Used by Republicans. If you want to learn about digital marketing this post might quickly fall into the must read category - some (not all) of the things Obama and his team are doing really live at the forefront of today's best practices.
