By |2013-01-05T21:36:58-04:00June 27, 2011|

In part of an ongoing series, the Boston WordPress Group has been running a series of "WordPress Theme Bake-Offs." The purpose has been less about finding a winning theme and instead is focused on giving the entire group an opportunity to hear more about these themes as the members determine what might make the most sense for each of them. Bake-Off #2 featured the following themes:

In addition, I should also mention that the Boston WordPress Group was kind enough to invite me to run another of the demos...

Custom Facebook, Twitter and YouTube Profiles for Dr. Honrado

By |2013-01-05T21:31:24-04:00June 22, 2011|

I have just recently completed the first phase on a major project for Los Angeles based facial plastic surgeon Dr. Carlo Honrado. The scope of the project included building out an entirely new website. Over the course of the project I have also listed Dr. Honrado on a number of other key platforms including Google Places and Yelp. In addition, we came to the conclusion that social media was a great opportunity for Dr. Honrado to connect with his clients so building out nice social media profiles has been a big priority. For Dr. Honrado I built out a custom Twitter background, a custom YouTube background and on Facebook I built out a number of pages for him. (Click images to enlarge)

Google Adds Search by Voice

By |2013-01-05T21:29:59-04:00June 21, 2011|

Google has been on a bit of a roll with their home page of late including my favorite all time Google Doodle, but today I noticed a really big one! It appears that Google has rolled out a new search by voice feature on their main search. Take a look at the attached screengrab from earlier today. While the summer Doodge was fun, almost lost in all the color was the headline - that little tiny microphone icon laid into the search bar.

Social Media Anxiety Got You Down? – Infographic

By |2013-01-05T21:28:36-04:00June 21, 2011|

This is a neat graphic provided by Jason Falls that outlines where businesses and people are with regard to social media. Personally, I see a few great takeaways here, and as usual it really comes down to seeing things however you would like to. I love this notion of "teach rather than preach" which they discuss in the commentary of their post. For me, I'll give you a little extra right now in terms of reading this graphic with rose colored lenses...

Where to Place Social Media Button On Your Site

By |2013-01-05T21:26:13-04:00June 20, 2011|

Over the past few weeks social media buttons have been big news! For those of you not familiar with the term, social media buttons are those little icons that are all over blogs today encouraging visitors to do things like "Tweet" or "Like" or most recently to "+1". The next Facebook killer is always "around the corner" but for most of us, our business deals with today and not the future so the parlor games don't mean as much - in fact we just want the low down skinny on what exactly we should be doing on our blogs in order to get the best ROI (or maybe a better term might be ROS - "Return on Space"). Hopefully this post will help answer that for you!

By |2013-01-05T21:20:46-04:00June 17, 2011|

In this video I break down a great way to use Twitter's advanced search in order to monitor your space both from a perspective of generating new business as well as in terms of keeping an eye on the competitive landscape. We then take it one step further in this same video and show you how to maintain your Twitter search on an ongoing basis so you will not have to continually go into Twitter and re-build your search.

Custom Facebook Welcome Page for CashPoint

By |2013-01-05T21:13:47-04:00June 16, 2011|

CashPoint Custom Facebook Welcome TabThis is a Custom Facebook Welcome Page we did for CashPoint - we've kept if pretty simple with a big focus on the graphic. Minimal calls to action with a focus on really trying to explain as simply as possible the value add of CashPoint with a primary push towards encouraging people to pick up the phone. The idea with this particular tab is rather than trying to do everything at once with a Custom Facebook Page, instead we have elected to focus on a primary call to action which will provide a good benefit for both the user and the company. Video Capture Software Review: Jing and Screenr

By |2013-01-05T21:12:45-04:00June 13, 2011|

I regularly have to make screen/video captures in the course of my day, and a service that I currently use for this is Jing. My best case use for this is to create a video tutorial or a detailed screen grab for a client - need to see how to create a new admin for a Facebook Page? No problem, I can whip up a quick 30 second video showing my client exactly how to do that. The end use for an application like this is great - I'm happy, and more importantly my client is happy. Of course having the ability to create a very nice video to embed on a website is also a nice plus! So, I recently became aware of another service that also offers up the ability to do a video capture, Screenr, and as I like to do, this became a great opportunity to review my own work flow process.
