Recently, the folks over at the Boston WordPress Group were kind enough to have me as a guest speaker during an event title the WordPress Theme Bake-Off.
I’d say the event went very well, and there were a number of great follow up questions. I demoed the premium Headway Themes (affiliate link) which also happens to be the same theme that I’ve built my own site on! The folks over at Boston WP also recorded the event (I come up around the 41 minute mark). I should also say that again, the purpose was less about declaring a winner and more about highlighting some of the strengths versus shortcomings.
In addition to Headway, the other themes we demoed were Thesis and Suffusion.
Here are the links to the demo sites:
Thesis: http://dev5.ab3testbed.com/ demoed by Alan Bergstein
Headway: http://dev4.ab3testbed.com/ demoed by David Gadarian
Suffusion: http://dev6.ab3testbed.com/ demoed by Jenn Nickerson
Update: Don’t forget to take a look at my post on Bake-Off 2.0 where we demoed PageLines, Genesis and the Hybrid Theme. Once again the BWPM was kind enough to invite me to the stage to present.
Thanks for the post Dave! I will check out the video soon. Headway looks really promising.

@JenniferNickerson Absolutely!
If you end up making a deep dive I’ll look forward to hearing what you think

Hmmm. This isn’t good. The testbed Headway top menu link text is off the image to the right with Firefox and moved to the left with Opera and Chrome. I’m trying to decide between Headway and Thesis. So now – is this a Headway or coder’s error?

@chevere When I was demoing the theme I did a few things live with the “easy hooks” to show the audience (so you see two RSS links) which I left up. Also it appears someone added another item to the navigation bar, otherwise I would have placed those items further to the right with CSS. So… yes, the fault appears not to be Headways on this one.
I use Headway for this site as well and I’ve been happy.
